Paddle Board Highlights

Who is it for?

If you’re looking for a lightweight, inflatable paddle board that’s perfect for all around paddling, check out the Nomad from Paradise Board Co. The Nomad is affordably priced in the mid $600s and comes with everything you need to get on the water. The board comes with a bag, paddle, pump, fin and leash and is available in 3 different colorways so there are a few options available to suit your individual taste. Because of the all-around shape of the board, the Nomad will be best for shorter distances of a couple miles max and in calmer waters.

First Impressions

Aesthetically, the board has some nice design features with the tropical graphics on both the deck and bottom of the board that mimic their brand logo and also features a nice balance of colors. The Paradise branding is displayed as a package here pretty well with just about every piece of equipment having their bird of paradise logo with the exclusion of the pump. As mentioned previously, the board comes with a really nice heavy-duty backpack with padded straps and a three piece carbon blend paddle that was surprisingly nice and lighter than expected, a standard dual action pump, and on the board you have bungees at the nose and the tail, and grips at the tail and the nose as well that are easy to hold the board. The colors of the bungee don’t match though so to some that might be a turn off. It has D rings at the nose, tail, and two on each side that you can strap down a kayak seat, if you’d like, or anything else that you’d like to travel with. Taking this board down to the water, it was really easy to carry; it was light—just over 22 pounds—and the handle is very soft. Looking at the handle though it looks like how the deck pad was cut to fit the handle it’s kind of already lifting, so that’s maybe one little concern for longevity of this board lasting for the deckpad. Once getting out onto the board cutting through the water was pretty easy since the board has a more pointed nose. The board felt nice and stable and was able to cut through the chop and the boat wakes with ease. Overall, this paddle board is a good price point starter board that would work well for kids, men, women.

Benefits

  • Primary Use

    All Around

Paddle Boards fall into two broad categories, All-Around and Specialty boards, with all-around designed primarily for recreation while speciality boards for top performance in specific disciplines

  • Durability

    Durable

Durability is largely a result of the board construction and shape, with more durable boards typically carrying more materials (added layers, PVC, etc) and as such adding to the weight.

  • Carrying

    Easy

Carrying ease is determined by board weight and handle type, where a board weighing under 20lbs with a Liftsup handle is extremely easy to carry while a 35+lbs board quite difficult.

  • Stability

    Stable

Stability is a product of construction and shape, where boards w/ 30”+ wide and 200+ liters in volume offer plenty of stability for your AVG adult while a board under 26” wide is a challenge.

  • Glide

    Average

Glide is a result of board shape and construction, w/ boards weighing under 30lbs and designed for racing offering best glide while recreational boards normally being on the slow side.

Features

  • Dimensions

    11' x 32" x 6"

Industry standard in board dimensions reads: L (length, from nose to tail) x W (width, from rail to rail at midpoint length), and H (height, from top to bottom of board at midpoint length).

  • Weight

    22.5 lbs

Standup paddle boards tend to fall into 4 different weight classes: extremely lightweight (under 20 lbs), lightweight (20-28 lbs), average weight (28-35 lbs), heavy (above 35 lbs).

  • Volume

    300 L

Volume is a key metric to determine how much weight a board can carry. Boards w/ 200+ liters offer most floatation with boards under 150 liters typically for high-performance surf.

  • Capacity

    400 lbs

Capacity is the max cargo weight a stand up paddle board can carry, considering not only the paddler’s weight but whatever else the paddler may choose to carry alongside him/her.

  • Add On's

Bungee Nose, Bungee Tail, D Ring, Paddle Included, Leash Included, Handle on nose

Add-on’s include bungee cords, a minimalist way to haul things; connexsup, which allows for all sorts of attachments, even fishing rods; and FCS II/Connect, for easy fin instal.

  • Handle

    Strap

Handles directly affect carrying ease, with external grip handles (Liftsup & EZgrab) offering most comfort, Internal Ergo Grip the mid-tier comfort, and box handles as least comfortable.

  • Holders

    No

Fishing rod holders and/or paddle holders can make paddling that much more pleasant, esp. when needing holders for the rod or having a safe place for the paddle during yoga.
