You might ask what urban adventures are available to tour in the beautiful city of Pittsburgh? There is no better way to view the urban skyline than on a stand-up paddleboard.

Highlights

Urban paddling is something you can do in many cities, thanks to the rivers running through or alongside them. But, urban stand up paddle boarding is a totally unique experience of its own, especially in Pittsburgh, PA. The Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers merge to form the Ohio hence the “SUP3Rivers”.

Established in 2011, SUP3Rivers is a grass roots based urban stand up paddle boarding adventure outfitter based out of South Side Riverfront Park and Allegheny Landing in the North Shore. Their mission is to provide safe urban adventures on the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers making the sport accessible, safe and affordable to the residents and visitors of Pittsburgh, PA. The SUP3River's friendly 1st timer paddle tour highlights the city’s bridges and landmarks such as PNC Park, Heinz Field, Point State Park, USS Requin, several bridges, city scape views and the riverfront trails that connect all along the rivers. “Our goal is to continue branding an urban SUP community in the downtown Pittsburgh area with a focus on safety. We are not selling equipment, we are branding and sharing the experience" states Owner, Matthew Rumbaugh.

Season

The ideal time to SUP in Pittsburgh, PA is mid-May through late September. Experienced paddlers can access the rivers year-round but the wind, current and commercial traffic can be challenging. Inexperienced paddlers should avoid the rivers from October 1st til April 1st. No matter what the season you will need to wear a PFD and leash. Safety is first and foremost to ensure you enjoy a gnarly urban adventure.
