Paddle Board Highlights

Who is it for?

If you’re looking for an inflatable that is suited for river running but can also handle a wide variety of adventures check out the NSP Pioneer. The Pioneer is great for Whitewater paddling, SUP Fishing, Touring, Camping, and more. This board loves adventure. Because the Pioneer was built with river paddling first and foremost, you know it is a very durable inflatable that is able to withstand a beating. It utilizes NSP’s FS technology which features fusion reinforced double layer glueless pre-lamination and a double-layer rail construction with double sealing rail band. Because of the durability here the board starts to tip towards the heavier end for inflatables weighing 28.13lbs. Priced at $1,220 this board is a quality board at a reasonable price.

First Impressions

Visually, this paddleboard has a beautiful design with a dark green/forest green coloring with a map on the nose of the board playing into the adventure that the board is meant for. You can tell that a lot of thought was put in here. The deckpad is a thermoformed EVA deckpad, very comfortable, that lays on the majority of the board making it again, great for whitewater paddling as well as touring/camping when you need to haul a good amount of gear. One great feature to note here is that the board has two paddle holders, one in the middle of the deckpad and one on the tail which is very useful when fishing. This board also comes with three mounts for attaching fishing gear, GSP, or a seat. There are three fins, you have two side bites and one larger center fin. And on the nose and the tail there are heavy duty tie-down belts for safety gear which adds a nice touch. When carrying this board it felt fairly easy to carry down to the water. On the water the board felt very stable, which is exactly what you need on the river, and had an easy glide that would be good for beginner to intermediate paddlers. The thought behind the design, the price point and durability combined all point to the Pioneer deserving Supconnect’s A-Grade.

Benefits

  • Primary Use

    Fishing

Paddle Boards fall into two broad categories, All-Around and Specialty boards, with all-around designed primarily for recreation while speciality boards for top performance in specific disciplines

  • Durability

    Above Average

Durability is largely a result of the board construction and shape, with more durable boards typically carrying more materials (added layers, PVC, etc) and as such adding to the weight.

  • Carrying

    Average

Carrying ease is determined by board weight and handle type, where a board weighing under 20lbs with a Liftsup handle is extremely easy to carry while a 35+lbs board quite difficult.

  • Stability

    Very Stable

Stability is a product of construction and shape, where boards w/ 30”+ wide and 200+ liters in volume offer plenty of stability for your AVG adult while a board under 26” wide is a challenge.

  • Glide

    Average

Glide is a result of board shape and construction, w/ boards weighing under 30lbs and designed for racing offering best glide while recreational boards normally being on the slow side.
